Junior Preschool (18 months to 2 years)
Children at this age are by nature curious about the world around them and learn best by investigating their world through play. At Village Academy North, we embrace multisensory learning and play-based experiences that are presented to our little ones in a positive and safe early learning environment. Toddlers in our Junior Preschool program are exposed to foundational early literacy skills, oral language skills, science, foundational math concepts, and music all while reinforcing self-help skills and positive social interactions. You can expect for your toddler to learn the names and sounds of letters, shapes and colors, counting, and basic Spanish vocabulary. At morning circle time your child’s teacher will present daily lessons and integrate stories that nurture language development and strengthen social and self-regulation skills. Music and movement activities promote a fun atmosphere and are also incorporated throughout each day. Our teachers will individualize instruction. We embrace individualized instruction to best meet the needs of each child. We strongly advocate play-based learning experiences in our classrooms. Our play-based focused curriculum is designed to strengthen both gross and fine motor skills while presenting aspects required to build cognitive development. Our goal is always to prepare your toddler for future academic success. We deliver an encouraging, safe, and loving early learning environment that will allow your child to develop into an independent, caring and enthusiastic problem solver with a lasting love for learning.
Child Development In Jr. Preschool
We teach using Learn Every Day for Toddlers and Twos curricula by Kaplan and utilize The Letter People curriculum by Abrams and Company as an important supplement. These curriculum’s are evidence-based and were developed by researchers and professionals in the early childhood development field. Our curriculum’s expose the children to letter names and sounds, important early math concepts, and science and nature. We also arrange for the children to enjoy introductory lessons embracing music and movement, active listening and talking, activities that promote social and emotional development, outdoor lesson incorporating science and nature, and activities to foster creativity, exploration, and physical development. Children are also introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary as part of their learning. Our Toddlers are evaluated three times during the year to record advancement toward developmental milestones, and to make a note of specific goals and objectives, including: Health and Safety, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Math and Literacy. This is a transparent process and our teachers share the results with parents, and suggest ways to reinforce the learning at home. We create a portfolio of pictures and crafts from your child’s time in our Toddler program. This portfolio will travel with your child as they advance in preschool and serve as treasured memory book of your child’s development during their time at Village Academy North.
