Junior Pre-Kindergarten (3 years to 4 years)
Our Junior Pre-Kindergarten class concentrates on school readiness skills and creating a foundation to prepare your child for their VPK year. Research tells us that children acquire knowledge best when information is attained using two or more sensory pathways (for instance, when a child both hears and sees a letter). Multisensory learning experiences are a part of every aspect of your child’s day at Village Academy North. We train our teachers to be aware and understand the different learning styles. Children may be visual learners, auditory learners, and some learn best by moving and touch. We pride ourselves in creating multisensory experiences for your child in combination with our play-based approach to learning and our teachers will ensure that all learners are provided with an opportunity for success in our Junior Pre-Kindergarten class. Our teachers create opportunities for both cooperative learning as well as independent discovery and guide children while extending support and encouragement. Our teaching methods are designed to provide shared as well as independent learning experiences that allow children to receive differentiated instruction specifically adapted for their unique developmental requirements and progress. Teachers in our Junior Pre-Kindergarten class familiarize children with early mathematical skills such as number relationships, measurement, and hands-on geometry experiences that advance problem solving and reasoning skills. Emergent writing skills, oral language skills, letter knowledge, phonological awareness, and print awareness are all building blocks of early literacy that we value as part of our daily curriculum. Teachers use dialogic reading techniques during shared read alouds. STEM or STEAM activities (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) are always incorporated into your child’s daily schedule. Teachers are trained to understand the principals and importance of integrating STEM into your child’s preschool learning environment. Children are also exposed to a variety of world cultures and taught in a fun-loving environment well thought out to develop a healthy love for learning.
Houghton-Mifflin and The Letter People curriculum expose the children to letters, sounds, numbers, and math and science skills for kids, as well as physical activity. This curriculum is designed to assure that children possess groundwork necessary for reading, writing, and math.
