Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (4s and 5s)
As Florida VPK educators, our role is to guide your student on the path to Kindergarten readiness. We take pride in our ability to instill positivity and self-confidence in these amazing young people. Your child’s teacher will present lessons and offer a play-based learning environment that is designed to introduce children to the foundational skills necessary to achieve future academic success. The classroom and class structure are created to strengthen your child’s social development and self-regulation skills. We will guide the children as they explore early literacy, writing, math, science, creative arts and music, health and fitness, and social studies. Our fun-loving and supportive classroom environments allow for child-directed instruction and hands on activities that will promote a lasting love of learning in your child. Our teachers are highly-trained and understand the need to support a child’s natural curiosity and discovery of the world around them. We integrate science and math as a part of all aspects of the day. We strongly believe in the importance of encouraging and developing early science skills and mathematical reasoning skills at this age. We offer a healthy balance between both shared and independent learning experiences. Our curriculum and play-based style of education affords opportunities for “creation time”, imaginative play, social development, and activities that foster cognitive development.
We use Pearson’s Opening the World of Learning (OWL) Pre-K curriculum and supplement OWL with the Starfall Pre-Kindergarten curriculum. This curricula selection allows our children to transition smoothly from our Florida VPK classes into their Kindergarten class the following year. We find that it is common that students graduating from Village Academy North are well ahead of their peers when entering public and private Kindergarten programs. The curricula we use allow children to progress at their own pace under the framework of guided instruction and multisensory learning. Each integrates technology throughout the curricula and use technology to reinforce concepts.
Our Florida VPK Lead Teachers are experienced and certified early childhood teachers who have earned Bachelor’s degrees and who have been highly trained. All classes that have over 11 children enrolled have a highly qualified and highly trained VPK assistant teacher.
